Why Poland. Capturing the opportunity in the era of shift from globalization to regionalization

Why Poland. Capturing the opportunity in the era of shift from globalization to regionalization

Why Poland – Panel Discussion at Polish House Davos 2023

For more than 30 years Poland has been an attractive market for foreign investors who appreciate the country’s openness, geographic location and economic stability. The country is one of the biggest recipients of greenfield investments in the region, as well as a destination for numerous M&A transactions made by foreign entities. Recent global events have destabilized international trade and production, what influenced the shift from globalization to regionalization. Policymakers, economists and business leaders are concerned about shortening of supply chains and decreasing economic prosperity. Poland being centrally positioned in Europe and the European Union has already became a global BPO and Shared Service Center and demonstrated business resilience during COVID-19 pandemics. Can Poland become a regional production and operation hub? What are the practical aspects of investing and doing business in Poland?

CEE’s Digital Challengers: Do IT with us

CEE’s Digital Challengers (Debate) – Panel Discussion at Polish House Davos 2023

The digital economy has historically been a key growth driver for Poland, outpacing the region’s growth – with digital commerce being the main source of it and outperforming any previous predictions. Now, it’s time for Poland to leverage its momentum and take it to the next level, by moving from a supplier of inexpensive IT labor to a country known for advanced IT products and talent. The challenges are great – from a shrinking talent pool to a drop in STEM graduates – but the opportunity that lies ahead could propel Poland towards immense value and rapid future growth.

What are the best strategies to win talent in the new social, demographic and cultural era

What are the best strategies to win talent in the new social, demographic and cultural era

What are the best strategies to win talent in the new social, demographic and cultural era – Debate at Polish House Davos 2023

Today, leading global trends such as changing patterns of work and the increased importance of employees’ well-being along with high inflation and wage pressures, require companies to take decisive action to win talent. Business innovation and competitiveness can be fostered by talented individuals in the workplaces. Maintaining competitiveness requires the introduction of systemic solutions, including the expansion of the human resources base with the desired skills and adapting the education system to market needs. Technological advances, such as AI, automation and robotics, will create new jobs, but will also displace many. In order to prevent talent crisis, it will be necessary to upskill and reskill as many as one billion workers worldwide over the next decade. Is the development of approach towards digital skills and employer’s flexibility, enough to win in the global talent race? How business leaders can improve employee engagement and expand talent pipeline in the time of new social, demographic and cultural era?

Strategic investments – a key driver for Eastern European security – Panel Discussion at Polish House Davos 2023

Political disturbances, socio-economic disruptions, including legal uncertainty, and geopolitical risks are exacerbating the negative impact felt in many areas of business as well as communities. Strong leadership, bold decisions, and strategic investments are more important than ever, as we face the most serious security situation in decades. Current security architecture and the value of strategic investments are being discussed among Eastern Europe stakeholders: civil society organizations, governmental officials, policy advisers, and business representatives all help in providing a sound foundation for a sustainable future. Our common goal is to enhance Europe’s competitiveness as an investment location in the face of global challenges and external forces. The shortening and regionalization of Global Value Chains, supporting new investments in key energy infrastructure, the inflow of further investments in the high-tech manufacturing industry as well investments in Europe’s key IT infrastructure will play an enormous role in building a new economic order.

The new global crisis: what have we done wrong and what do we do now – Panel Discussion at Polish House Davos 2023

The world is going through a poly-crisis of high inflation, slowing economic growth, lingering effects of COVID-19, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, geopolitical tensions and climate change. What should we have done differently, especially to prevent high inflation? What are the baseline, upside and downside scenarios going forward? What economic policies should Europe, the US and the rest of the world adopt to mitigate the crises and re-start fast, just and green growth?

The pathway to European energy sovereignty – High level debate

The pathway to European energy sovereignty – High level debate at Polish House Davos 2023

ADMISSION BY PERSONAL INVITATION ONLY!

The war in Ukraine has destabilized European energy markets and led to price volatility, supply shortages, security issues and economic uncertainty. Today, the energy sovereignty is emerging as a top priority for Europe’s future. Nuclear energy is a vital element in responding to the modern energy challenges. It is the second largest source of clean electricity globally, leaving a low-carbon footprint and generating more power on less land than any other eco-energy technology. The nuclear energy industry and its related activities represent a high-tech industrial sector in the EU economy and a significant source of GDP, added value, employment and exports. The debate will focus on the Polish energy strategy and investments in the nuclear energy infrastructure. The Polish government has included nuclear energy alongside renewables as a key strategic project that will help to decarbonize the power system, enhance energy independence and ensure the security. Poland decides to engage in new strategic partnerships with international entities that use proven and safe nuclear reactor technology. Given the chosen direction it is apparent that the future of nuclear power in Europe will largely be decided by Poland. How can Europe achieve energy sovereignty? Will the Polish ambition in nuclear energy sector guide the energy pathway to guarantee the European economic stability? How can new solutions be deployed at speed and scale?

Rebuilding Ukraine – Panel Discussion at Polish House Davos 2023

The war in Ukraine has caused enormous material damage to the Ukrainian economy. The prospect of the future reconstruction of Ukraine from post-war damage seems distant. However, past experience shows that in order for the process to be successful, adequate prior preparation is required. Rebuilding Ukraine is a complex challenge that requires unprecedented collaboration, vast resources, and exceptional leadership. During the discussion we will talk about how Western countries can get involved in the post-war reconstruction, with particular emphasis on responding to the needs of the business sector.

Belarusian business today and economic revival in a democratic Belarus

Belarusian business today and economic revival in a democratic Belarus

Democratic Belarus – Debate at Polish House Davos 2023

The fraudulent presidential election in Belarus in August 2020 and the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24 2022 led to a massive business climate deterioration inside Belarus. As a reaction to it, members of the Belarusian business community increasingly chose to leave Belarus for countries offering security and favourable business conditions. With most of the Belarusian business community members choosing Poland and Lithuania as their new destination countries, investing and creating new working places, decisive policy steps are needed in other countries as well in order to support a fair private Belarusian business diaspora and relocate it to the new markets worldwide. Private sector was one of the drivers of changes in 2020 and will become the key stakeholder of future economic transition. What is the vision of future economic reforms in a democratic Belarus? How to support fair private Belarusian business today in the context of international sanctions and massive Lukashenka’s regime repressions?

Fireside chat with Permanent representatives to NATO at Polish House Davos 2023

ADMISSION BY PERSONAL INVITATION ONLY!

The 2022 NATO Madrid Summit took crucial decisions in response to the Russian full-scale aggression against Ukraine. Allies decided to considerably enhance NATO’s deterrence and defense posture, including by ensuring deterrence by denial and the ability to defend forward. As Allies prepare to the upcoming NATO Summit in Vilnius, one needs to assess the pace of the implementation of the Madrid decisions and reflect on the additional elements that should be considered in the coming months. How should we deliver on the concept of forward defense? What should be the successor of the 2014 Defense Investment Pledge? How can we boost our industrial capacity to respond both to the Ukrainian and Allied needs? Do we need a new NATO Military Strategy which would implement NATO Strategic Concept?
