Belarusian business today and economic revival in a democratic Belarus
The fraudulent presidential election in Belarus in August 2020 and the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24 2022 led to a massive business climate deterioration inside Belarus. As a reaction to it, members of the Belarusian business community increasingly chose to leave Belarus for countries offering security and favourable business conditions. With most of the Belarusian business community members choosing Poland and Lithuania as their new destination countries, investing and creating new working places, decisive policy steps are needed in other countries as well in order to support a fair private Belarusian business diaspora and relocate it to the new markets worldwide. Private sector was one of the drivers of changes in 2020 and will become the key stakeholder of future economic transition. What is the vision of future economic reforms in a democratic Belarus? How to support fair private Belarusian business today in the context of international sanctions and massive Lukashenka’s regime repressions?
